November 2018     Issue #370

Does your calm, stress-free RV lifestyle feel disrupted after reading about the leaders of social media and their irresponsible attitude towards their customers? Would you like to detach yourself along with your valuable, sought after information from this turmoil?

Delete Facebook and Instagram Accounts

Step 1: Assess what you might lose from deleting your Facebook and Instagram accounts.

Find other sites where you have signed in using the Facebook/Instagram username and password. Log out of these sites. Once you permanently exit Facebook and/or Instagram, create a new account to regain access.

Step 2: Download your data stored by Facebook.

Step 3: Click the delete button.

Step 4: Resist getting back together. If that fails, there is a 30-day grace period.

Step 5: Follow the same routine to delete Instagram data.

Step 6: Ensure there is no tracking as explained in the linked article below.

  • Facebook keeps your account active for 30 days after deleting. If you sign in within that time-frame, the account can be re-activated.

  • Sign out of all accounts that you signed in using Facebook. Then join again, if desired, using another email/password.

Here is the step-by-step procedure with screen shots to accomplish this feat. Give yourself a few hours to divest all your Facebook-associated accounts, and maybe a cup or two of caffeine, but it can be done.

 Delete Twitter Account

Step 1: Once signed in to your Twitter account, click your profile image.

Step 2: Click Settings and Privacy.

Step 3: In Setting and Privacy, click Request Your Archive.

Step 4: At the bottom of this page, click Deactivate My Account.

Step 5: Resist getting back together. If that fails, there is a 30-day grace period.

After deactivating the account, a blue button, Deactivate @username, appears in the middle of the page.

Step 6: Click Deactivate @Username.

Step 7: Enter your Twitter password. Click Deactivate Account.

Here is the step-by-step procedure with screen shots.

Ignore the big green START NOW button, that is just advertising.

Delete LinkedIn Account

Step 1: Once signed in to your LinkedIn account, click the Me tab (profile icon).

Step 2: Click Settings and Privacy.

Step 3: In Setting and Privacy, at the bottom of the page, click Closing Your LinkedIn Account.

Step 4: LinkedIn asks for one of a multiple-choice feedback, an answer is required.

Step 5: Click the blue Next button.

Step 6: Enter your LinkedIn password. Click Close Account.

Here is the step-by-step procedure with screen shots. Steps are included to use the LinkedIn mobile app for this process.

Delete Google+ Account

Users have become suspicious of Google Services agenda since Google launched its new privacy policy a few months ago. Here is how to delete your Google+ account without dropping other Google services.

Step 1: To delete Google+ but retain all other Google accounts, like email and YouTube, sign in to your Google+ account:

Step 2: Click the profile picture.

Step 3: Click Account.

Step 4: In Accounts, under Services, click Delete profile and remove associated Google+ features.

The next page offers two options.

Step 5: Delete Google+ content … or Entire Google Profile. Click Delete Google+ Content. The explanation of what is deleted displays below this choice.

Step 6: Check the box before this statement: Required: I understand that deleting this service can’t be undone and the data I delete can’t be restored.

Step 7: Click Remove selected services.

No information here about how long backups remain on Google servers. Note: If your YouTube account uses the Google+ login/password, this access is also deleted.

Here is the step-by-step procedure with screen shots.
